Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that $6 billion of Iran's frozen assets held in Qatar would be released and returned to the country, according to Iranian state media.

Pezeshkian said the funds are part of a total of $12 billion in Iranian assets frozen in Qatar and that follow-up efforts regarding the remaining amount are ongoing, according to remarks carried by the state-run IRNA news agency.

The remarks came amid continuing negotiations between Iran and the United States and represent the highest-level public comments from Tehran regarding the possible release of the funds. US officials have not confirmed that any frozen Iranian assets have been released.
