The second Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Month came to a close on June 30 capping a month of public events celebrating the city's living traditions.

This year's program featured more than 50 performances, 80 cultural booths and over 40 guided tours and workshops covering more than 100 forms of intangible cultural heritage.

One of the featured heritage tours takes visitors to Sham Shui Po, one of Hong Kong's oldest neighborhoods. Known for its traditional trades, street markets and long-established small businesses, the district is also home to a number of intangible cultural heritage practices that continue to be passed down by local artisans.

The tour includes a stop at a guqin workshop, where visitors learn about the craftsmanship behind the traditional Chinese musical instrument and the process of making it by hand.

Another stop introduces traditional puppetry, including string puppets, hand puppets, rod puppets and shadow puppets, offering visitors a closer look at one of Hong Kong's traditional folk arts.

Visitors can also take part in a bamboo-and-paper craft workshop, where they learn basic techniques and create simple three-dimensional works using bamboo strips and paper.
