CGTN poll: Global respondents believe CPC provides a better model of political party governance

CGTN

Through the course of its 105-year journey, the Communist Party of China (CPC) has developed a set of institutional norms and working mechanisms for upholding and strengthening its leadership, which have been transformed into institutional strengths in national governance. These have played an irreplaceable role in advancing Chinese modernization.

In a CGTN survey, 11,521 respondents from 41 countries noted that China's political party system offers a Chinese solution for exploring better political party governance. Its core strengths have won broad recognition from the international community.

According to the survey, in 30 of the 41 countries polled, respondents believe that the CPC, representing the fundamental interests of the broadest masses of the people, is better positioned than Western parties to safeguard the nation's overall and long-term interests. In Western multi-party electoral systems, parties prioritize core voters' interests to win ballots and tend to amplify divides among social groups to consolidate their voter bases. Limited by short terms, politicians favor quick-yield short-term policies. In the survey, 61.3% of global respondents expressed belief that Western multi-party systems are prone to short-sighted policies and social division. This view is held by more than 70% of respondents in India, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Africa and Nigeria, while among developed countries, the United Kingdom and the United States rank high, with 62.5% and 61.5% of respondents, respectively, holding the view.

Furthermore, Western political parties often struggle to establish effective decision-making mechanisms due to partisan confrontation and electoral pressures. In the survey, 63.7% of global respondents agreed that partisan infighting tends to cripple national governance mechanisms. Moreover, 58.5% of global respondents expressed belief that China's system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC is more conducive to policy formulation and implementation than Western parties.

When responding to major emergencies, 43.5% of global respondents said that the CPC is more likely to reach consensus, coordinate unified action, and respond more efficiently and effectively, while only 17.9% chose Western political parties.

In terms of aligned goals, 66.3% of global respondents noted that the CPC is able to closely unite various political parties and individuals without party affiliation to strive for common goals, providing clear and stable strategic direction and expectations for national development. In contrast, 67.3% of global respondents hold the view that under Western multiparty competition, national development frequently shifts course with electoral cycles, leaving little room for sound long-term planning. This view has gained majority support across all 41 countries surveyed.

The survey was conducted by CGTN in collaboration with Renmin University of China through the New Era International Communication Research Institute, targeting respondents from around the world. The respondent countries cover major developed countries and Global South countries. All respondents are ordinary people aged 18 and above, and the samples are in line with the age and gender distribution of the national census of each country.
