The year 2026 marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Over the past 105 years, the "world's largest political party," with over 100 million members, stays true to its founding mission of serving the people and offering Chinese perspectives on global challenges.

With hundreds of millions of tonnes of plastic waste generated globally each year, plastic pollution has become one of the most critical environmental crises facing humanity.

Miguel Angel Gonzalez Contreras, a young Mexican living in Sanya, Hainan Province, set out to explore how the city is tackling this issue. While the booming tourist destination welcomes more than 35 million visitors annually, it was also selected for the UN's "20 Cities Towards Zero Waste" initiative in 2026.

Coming from a coastal city himself, Miguel was eager to learn how Sanya balances plastic and waste reduction with tourism development. In this episode, he visits popular attractions such as Sanya Bay to explore the city's systematic efforts in beach cleanups, reducing plastic use in hotels, and waste sorting.

"For a tourism city, protecting the sea is not separate from development," he says, noting that Sanya's beauty lies not only in its beaches and palm trees, but also in the efforts behind their preservation.
