Wang Yuchang, a recipient of the Communist Party of China's July 1 Medal in 2026, joined the military at 18 and devoted himself to mastering missile technology. Through constant study and hands-on improvements, he refined missile fueling and assembly techniques.
During his service, he played a key role in two successful operations that brought down high-altitude U-2 reconnaissance aircraft, earning top military honors and rapid promotions.
After leaving the military, Wang began a new chapter in civilian life. He worked at a department store in Anhui Province, where he became a key member of the team and later took on management roles. Colleagues remember him as someone who was fair, principled and dedicated to his work.
Yet Wang rarely spoke about his military achievements. Many friends and coworkers knew little about his remarkable past. When people asked about the honors he had received, his response was simple: "There's nothing to boast about."
For Wang, serving the country did not end when he took off his uniform. Whether in the military or in civilian life, he believed that doing his job well mattered more than receiving recognition.
