Wu Yaqin: The community leader who made neighbors feel like family

When Wu Yaqin, a recipient of the Communist Party of China's July 1 Medal in 2026, became a Party official with the Changshan Garden Community in northeast China's Jilin Province in 2001, the "garden" was anything but what its name suggested. The neighborhood was plagued by broken roads, poor sanitation and frequent disputes among residents.

Determined to change that, Wu worked alongside residents to improve the community environment, always believing that "if people trust me, I must keep my promise."

More than two decades later, Changshan Garden Community has become a clean, green and welcoming neighborhood. Throughout her years of grassroots service, Wu has mediated more than 1,000 community disputes, helping resolve conflicts and build trust among residents.

Now 66, Wu continues to mentor young community workers, sharing the practical experience she has gained over decades. For her, every resident is family, and every small concern deserves wholehearted attention.
