As the Communist Party of China (CPC) marked its 105th founding anniversary on Wednesday, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping reaffirmed China's commitment to promoting peace, development and international cooperation at a time of mounting global uncertainty.
Addressing a gathering in Beijing, Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said that under the CPC's leadership, China has remained "a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order." He also called for carrying forward the common values of humanity, advancing the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions, regional conflicts and rising protectionism, experts said Xi's remarks underscore the CPC's long-held belief that China's development is closely linked with the future of the world.
According to Zheng Changzhong, a professor at Fudan University's Political Party Building and National Development Research Center, China's commitment to peaceful development is rooted in both the country's cultural heritage and the CPC's governing philosophy.
"For more than 5,000 years, the Chinese nation has valued peace, harmony and friendship. There is no gene for aggression or hegemony in Chinese civilization," Zheng told CGTN.
He noted that China's own development path reflects this principle. While some countries achieved industrialization through colonial expansion and external plunder, China completed in just a few decades an industrialization process that took many developed countries centuries, relying instead on a peaceful environment and international cooperation.
"China believes development is achieved through peace and cooperation, not through conquest or coercion," Zheng said, adding that from the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, the CPC has consistently linked China's development with the progress of humanity.
Wang Hongyan, chief research fellow at the Institute of Political Science of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind reflects the CPC's mission of seeking progress for humanity and harmony for the world.
She noted that challenges such as climate change, geopolitical conflicts, public health crises, food insecurity and energy shortages have made it increasingly clear that no country can address global problems alone. Against this backdrop, China's global initiatives offer a Chinese solution to improving global governance and responding to the question of where humanity should head in an era of profound transformation.
On Wednesday, Xi called on all Party members to uphold the banner of peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit. Experts believe the CPC's commitment to peaceful development and win-win cooperation will continue to inject certainty and positive energy into a world facing growing instability, while contributing Chinese wisdom to the pursuit of lasting peace and common development.
