Mexico City authorities are investigating the deaths of four people who died during mass celebrations following Mexico's World Cup victory over Ecuador on Tuesday. Crowds gathered around the Angel of Independence and along Paseo de la Reforma, where large public screens had been set up for the match. Health authorities said three people died of asphyxiation, while a fourth died in hospital after suffering severe seizures and a cardiac arrest. Mexico City Head of Government Clara Brugada offered condolences to the victims' families. She said safety, civil protection and health protocols would be strengthened for future World Cup celebrations, and urged fans to celebrate responsibly and avoid excessive drinking.
