Wildfires have swept across parts of southern Europe as hot, dry and windy conditions fuel the start of the summer fire season. In northeastern Spain, a blaze near La Bisbal d'Emporda burned more than 2,000 hectares, prompting residents in several municipalities to remain indoors. In Portugal, residents joined firefighters as flames threatened homes near Vouzela and Cercosa. In northern Greece, a wildfire near Oreokastro triggered evacuations and damaged industrial facilities, while in southern France, fires burned boats, forced thousands of people from campsites and disrupted traffic as firefighting aircraft worked to contain the flames.
