As floodwaters surged through the town, firefighters aboard inflatable rescue boats navigated powerful currents and debris to reach those isolated by the floodwaters.
Among those rescued were two residents in their 80s who had been stranded inside their home for more than half a day. One had a high fever. Rescuers carefully carried the pair onto the boat and then transferred them to an ambulance crew on higher ground for immediate treatment.
