US launches new strikes on Iran after Strait of Hormuz attacks

The US military says it launched "powerful" strikes against Iran on Tuesday night in response to the targeting of three ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media reported explosions in southern Iran, with several people injured in Sirik and blasts also heard near Qeshm Island. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian cut short his visit to Iraq and departed for Tehran following the strikes. Iran's deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, also posted on X that the new attacks by the US are a violation of the countries' memorandum of understanding.
