Residents in Houston's Magnolia Park neighborhood gathered near a makeshift memorial on July 9 after Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national, was fatally shot by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer earlier in the week. Flowers, candles and handwritten signs were placed at the scene as community members voiced concern over immigration raids and called for answers. ICE said Salgado was shot during a targeted enforcement operation after he allegedly rammed an agency vehicle and tried to run over an officer. His family has disputed that account and called for an independent investigation.
