The Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) in Shanghai is celebrating its fifth anniversary, having welcomed nearly four million visits and staged close to 30 major exhibitions since its opening.

Designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, the landmark museum on the Huangpu River has become one of the city's leading cultural destinations. To mark the anniversary, the museum has launched a summer program from June to August under the theme "Bloom in MAP." The season includes public participation projects, pop-up performances, interactive art events and special visitor programs, extending from the museum into riverside and commercial spaces across Pudong.

At the anniversary celebration, the museum looked back on its development and key achievements over the past five years, while also unveiling a new public art initiative aimed at bringing more creative works into urban spaces. Consuls based in Shanghai, artists and guests from different sectors joined the event to mark the milestone.

Since its opening, MAP has built partnerships with some of the world's leading cultural institutions, including the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Prado Museum.

The museum has also developed more than 1,500 cultural and creative products, producing over 2.2 million items. Several have been selected as official "Shanghai Gifts," helping turn exhibition experiences into objects visitors can take home and share. From July 9, more than 100 museum-designed products will also be showcased at pop-up stores across the city.

As part of its anniversary program, the museum has also launched a public art initiative inviting people of all ages to submit works, with selected projects set to be installed in major public spaces across Pudong.

Looking ahead, the museum said it plans to diversify its exhibition program further, bringing major international masterpieces together with more shows featuring emerging and younger artists.
