We Talk: Locals say they're unprepared as high temperatures grip Paris

Global Stringer

Recently, widespread areas across Europe have been gripped by persistent heat, with many locations setting new temperature records and issuing heat warnings. France has been suffering from a heat wave for several straight days. Temperatures in parts of western France rose to 43 degrees Celsius last month, hitting the highest June temperature ever recorded in the country.

A CGTN stringer in France interviewed local residents in Paris to hear about their daily struggles amid the extreme heat. People suffer through sleepless nights, and commute, work and take exams under scorching heat during the day. Robin, an engineer, fears temperatures will keep rising in the coming years and that truly cool, pleasant summers will become a thing of the past. Laura, a bookseller, said that people in Paris are not ready for even hotter weather ahead.
