Midsummer has brought a breeding boom to Altun Mountain Nature Reserve in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Herds of Tibetan antelopes and kiangs have been seen running across the plateau, while wild yaks graze and rest on the meadows. Thanks to stronger ecological protection, wildlife populations in the reserve have continued to grow. Over the past 14 years, Tibetan antelopes have increased from 43,000 to 65,000, kiangs from 38,000 to more than 50,000, and wild yaks from 9,000 to 12,000. The reserve is also home to over 200 bird species, along with diverse plateau fish, amphibians and reptiles.
