The main shield tunneling work of Qingdao's second Jiaozhou Bay undersea tunnel has been completed. Crews used a giant shield machine to excavate deep beneath the sea, overcoming complex underwater geological challenges. The 17.48-kilometer tunnel, including a 9.95-kilometer undersea section, is designed for speeds of up to 80 km/h and will improve regional travel.
