A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday said Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) recent claims that the Chinese mainland is using various actions to change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait are a "complete distortion of facts and malicious hype."

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to the Taiwan authorities' recent claims that the Chinese mainland is using military and non-military actions to change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, and that the international community should closely monitor these actions, before the current status quo in the Taiwan Strait gradually disappears.

Zhu rejected such claims, emphasizing that the real status quo of the Taiwan Strait is that there is only one China, and Taiwan is a part of China.

Zhu said the DPP authorities' use of the "new two-state theory" to define the so-called status quo of the Taiwan Strait completely violates law, history and reality, and is an outright "Taiwan independence" separatist fallacy.

Their stubborn adherence to the "Taiwan independence" stance, refusal to recognize the "1992 Consensus" which embodies the one-China principle, and continuous collusion with external forces to make provocations seeking "independence," are the disruptor of the status quo and the biggest source of instability for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, she added.
