Chinese mainland authorities have taken measures to assist Taiwan compatriots and Taiwan-funded enterprises affected by recent storms and flooding in three mainland regions, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said on Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian said at a press conference that authorities had promptly assessed the impact on Taiwan compatriots and businesses in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Hubei Province and Gansu Province, where severe weather has caused damage, and carried out emergency rescue, relocation, assistance and support efforts.
Taiwan compatriots in the three regions are safe, Zhu said, adding that some Taiwan-funded enterprises in Guangxi suffered economic losses of varying degrees. The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council is working with local authorities in Guangxi to help affected businesses overcome difficulties and resume operations as soon as possible, she added.
Zhu also expressed sympathy for people in China's Taiwan region affected by Typhoon Bavi, saying mainland authorities hoped those affected could return to normal production and daily life as soon as possible.
