The Sun family: Mastering the soul of ink-splashing porcelain

In Jingdezhen, the "ink-splashing" technique is a landmark evolution of traditional Fen Shui porcelain painting. Pioneered by master Sun Tongxin, the style draws directly from the philosophy and aesthetics of Chinese ink-wash painting.

For Sun Tongxin, the craft demanded patience that defied modern speed. "One ink-splash piece takes me three months," he observed. "Many try to copy me in minutes, but true ink-splash has depth and must stand up to scrutiny."

Today, his son Sun Lixin carries this legacy forward. He acknowledges that mastering the technique requires more than technical precision – it demands inner cultivation. "My father taught me that one must focus on the soul of the work," Sun Lixin explained. By balancing meticulous refinement with philosophical depth, the Sun family ensures their porcelain remains a medium for profound artistic expression rather than mere imitation.
