Organized by China Media Group and designated in partnership with the China Film Group, the 2026 FIFA World Cup Theater Screening Event is in full swing across China – and Guangdong stands out as a prominent highlight.
As the province with the largest number of participating cities and the most vibrant viewing atmosphere nationwide, Guangdong has launched coordinated screenings across six cities: Foshan, Dongguan, Zhuhai, Shaoguan, Zhaoqing and Yangjiang.
Nearly 20 cities across the country have joined this national initiative, drawing local football fans of all ages – including many teenagers enjoying their summer vacation – to share the excitement of watching World Cup matches on the big screen.

Centered on the core theme of “Connecting My City to the World,” the nationwide event embraces the thrill of top-tier football competition, having drawn nearly 1,000 Guangdong fans to a single venue for an immersive viewing experience.
In Dongguan, a football-themed market set up in a theater offered fans a one-stop experience to watch matches, shop for merchandise and taste local roasted goose, drawing large crowds. In Zhaoqing, fans donned yellow jerseys, chanted in rhythm with drums and sang classic Cantonese songs together, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
In Foshan, local father-and-son players from the Xijia Football League appeared at the event, extending friendly invitations, while in Shaoguan cheerleading dance performances including the Northern Guangdong Tea-Picking Dance were shown during halftime, while local specialties such as golden plums and renowned local rice noodles were served. In Yangjiang, the event opened with powerful drumbeats. Each of these six cities brought its own unique style, together showcasing the dynamic style of the Greater Bay Area, while extending a Cantonese-style invitation to football fans from around the world.
The nationwide coordinated screening initiative, organized by China Media Group in partnership with China Film Group, also saw other Chinese cities – including Harbin, Nanjing, Nanchang, Fuzhou and Jinan – explore a diversified "cinema plus" business model for nationwide cinema innovation and integrated cultural sports development.
