29 countries sign agreement on establishing World AI Cooperation Organization

Twenty-nine countries signed an agreement in Shanghai on the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization on Thursday.

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister, attended the signing ceremony and signed the agreement on behalf of the Chinese government.

According to the agreement, the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization is an independent intergovernmental international organization that follows the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and upholds the vision of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.

The organization aims to promote international cooperation and global governance in artificial intelligence (AI), ensuring that AI develops in a beneficial, safe and fair manner, and contributes to the well-being of humanity. Its headquarters will be located in Shanghai, China.

Representatives from 29 countries, including Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia and Indonesia, signed the agreement as founding members. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and representatives from other countries and international organizations also attended the ceremony.
