Nubia unveiled its latest AI-powered smartphone, the NaviX Ultra, at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, where it received a SAIL (Super AI Leader) Award for its advances in artificial intelligence.

Powered by Doubao Phone Assistant, the NaviX Ultra is built around what Nubia describes as an AI agent architecture, aiming to move beyond conventional AI features by enabling the device to understand user intent and complete multi-step tasks autonomously.

According to the company, the phone combines natural language understanding, visual recognition and task planning capabilities to help users manage schedules, search for information and operate multiple applications through a single request.

Unlike traditional smartphone assistants that typically respond to individual commands, the AI agent is designed to interpret a user's intent and coordinate actions across different apps. For example, when asked to prepare for a business trip, the system can gather travel information, organize related documents, set reminders and complete other tasks without requiring users to manually switch between applications.

Nubia said the AI agent is built on a native architecture that integrates environmental perception, intent recognition and task decomposition, allowing the phone to perform more complex operations with less user intervention.

The company said internal testing showed that the NaviX Ultra completed complex multi-step office tasks 67% faster than conventional AI smartphones while reducing errors by 42%.

The launch comes as AI capabilities become an increasingly important focus for smartphone makers, with companies seeking to evolve from standalone AI features such as voice assistants and image editing tools toward systems capable of completing more sophisticated tasks on behalf of users.

WAIC 2026, held in Shanghai from July 17 to 20, has placed artificial intelligence applications at the center of this year's event, with AI-powered consumer devices, robotics and large language models among the event's major highlights.
