Xinjiang uses floodwater to revive desert forest

In Hotan County, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, summer meltwater from the Kunlun Mountains is being guided into poplar forests on the edge of the Taklimakan Desert. Local authorities are using floodwater to replenish about 5,300 hectares of desert woodland, while also sowing drought-resistant plant seeds to help restore vegetation and strengthen the green ecological barrier.
