At WAIC 2026 in Shanghai, a new step toward strengthening global AI governance was taken with the launch of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. Professor Xue Lan of Tsinghua University, a leading expert on AI governance, says the priorities of the new organisation will include strengthening AI capacity in developing countries and advancing innovation in global governance, so the benefits of artificial intelligence are shared more broadly.
