China delivers record-breaking self-discharger

China delivered a record-breaking self-discharger on Tuesday in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. The vessel is the world's largest shallow-water transshipment self-discharger by deadweight tonnage, the world's fastest self-unloading vessel and the world's first self-discharger with bidirectional sailing capability. The ship is also the first of five vessels that will be built and delivered to global mining giant Rio Tinto. Zhang Xinlong, general manager of CSSC Chengxi Shipyard, said that all five will be delivered next summer.

According to China State Shipbuilding Corp, the vessel's delivery marks a pivotal transition for China from a follower to a leader in the sector of high-end self-unloading transshipment vessels.
