Since 2012, an expert team from Jiaotong University in Beijing has been conducting regular "health checks" on the Potala Palace. The structural monitoring system they manage operates round the clock. Whether detecting subtle vibrations in the palace's underground passages or minute structural changes within its halls, the system transmits data to the cloud in real time, allowing the experts in Beijing to analyze it remotely and act promptly to nip potential problems in the bud.

Technology is only part of the story. Even more vital are the Potala Palace staff who watch over it all year round. During their routine daily patrols, they inspect each hall, check every butter lamp and examine any potential fire hazard. This way, they are protecting not only the palace itself, but also its priceless collection of cultural relics.

Together, technology and dedicated human effort are helping to keep the Potala Palace safe.
