The Netherlands is set to impose trade sanctions on goods from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Golan Heights, the government said on Tuesday, in a move aimed at pressuring Israel over its settlement policy.

The measures will take effect on September 22 and remain in place for three years.

Under the sanctions, goods originating from Israeli settlements will face restrictions including a ban on entry into the Netherlands, as well as prohibitions on direct or indirect purchases, market distribution and related intermediary services, according to a government statement.

The Dutch government said the move aims to use economic measures to curb Israel's establishment of settlements in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights.

The announcement came after Britain said last week that it was working on an import and export ban targeting goods from Israeli settlements.
