Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing‌ (eVTOL) aircraft are believed to be the future of low-altitude flying. The 2026 International Advanced Air Mobility Expo kicked off on July 22 in Shanghai, where 51 eVTOLs are displayed along with 18 general aviation aircraft and 501 drones. The expo, first held in 2025, aims to boost development of the low-altitude economy, which is one of the emerging pillar industries according to China's Government Work Report for 2026. The sector's market size is expected to exceed 3.5 trillion yuan, or roughly 516 billion US dollars, by 2035.
