While much of the buzz at this week's International Low-Altitude Economy Expo centers on sleek eVTOL prototypes, the deeper story unfolding at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai is about the invisible architecture needed to make them viable at scale.

More than a dozen Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies on Wednesday released the Asia-Pacific Low-Altitude Economy Cooperative Development Action Initiative during a symposium held at the expo, pledging to co-develop technical standards, share data protocols and coordinate certification frameworks across borders.

"It's not just a showcase of products," said an AVIC civil avionics representative at the expo. "It is about delivering a closed-loop system from sensing to control, from energy to communication."

AVIC displayed nearly 300 products across 40 subsidiaries, alongside an online product selection platform it called a "router" for the low-altitude supply chain. Meanwhile, Aero Engine Corporation of China unveiled what it said is the country's most power-dense 200 kilowatt-class aviation electric motor, already in airworthiness testing.

Shanghai launched a dedicated tech platform for low-altitude airworthiness on Wednesday. The platform offers full-process certification services, testing and compliance consulting for manufacturers seeking type approval.

Volant Aerotech announced a 300 million yuan (about $44 million) strategic investment fund targeting upstream suppliers and application scenarios. Sino Jet's new brand Yifei Chuxing rolled out a "low-altitude co-build" partnership model offering standardized operational solutions across four Chinese regions.

The expo, which runs through Saturday, features 452 exhibitors, 80-plus forums and 65 new product launches.
