Sitting among the mountains, Jingdezhen in eastern China had limited transportation options in ancient times, with the Changjiang River being the only outlet for its porcelain for 1,000 years. Today the city's Sanlyu Temple Ancient Street preserves intact lanes and ancient wharves dating to the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
