The Vietnamese vessel "Khoi Nguyen 18" sank after encountering distress in waters near Yongshu Reef in the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea. As of 10 a.m. Sunday, 39 people had been rescued, authorities of China's Sansha City said.

A total of 62 people were on board, according to the authorities.
