A wildfire burning in Spain's eastern Castellon province has grown beyond firefighting capacity, the Valencia regional government said on Saturday evening.

Video from Castellon firefighters showed fire engines driving along roads lined by towering flames as the blaze swept across a wooded hillside.

Authorities said around 15,000 people had been evacuated as the fire expanded across a perimeter of about 21 kilometers.

The blaze is one of several major wildfires burning in Spain as the country faces intense fire conditions. According to the latest official figures, around 91,000 people have either been evacuated or ordered to stay indoors across the Madrid region, the province of Avila and parts of Toledo. The fires have destroyed or damaged approximately 45,000 hectares in the neighboring provinces of Madrid and Avila.
