China's summer movie season is fueling consumption nationwide. The country's summer box office has surpassed 5.7 billion yuan ($840 million), while the total box office nationwide for 2026 has exceeded 21.5 billion yuan.

A range of popular titles have led the market, with the comedy Kung Fu Soccer, animated fantasy All Wishes Come True and romantic drama Dear You among the biggest hits.

The film boom is also boosting spending beyond cinemas. In Ningbo, a "film passport" offers discounts on transport, shopping, dining and tourist attractions, encouraging moviegoers to explore more of the city.
