Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held no meeting or any form of exchange with Japan's foreign minister in Manila, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated on Monday, refuting the Japanese side's claim of in-person interaction.

Lin made the remark at a daily press briefing in response to reports that the Japanese foreign minister claimed he had exchanged greetings and conducted talks with Wang on the sidelines of a series of ASEAN foreign ministers' meetings in the Philippine capital last week.

"I can state this very clearly once again: during the Manila visit, Foreign Minister Wang Yi had no schedule to meet the Japanese side, and there was no brief on-site communication," said the spokesperson.

The Chinese ministry first addressed the question last Thursday, telling reporters that Wang had no planned meeting with Japanese officials in Manila.
