On July 27, the 2026 APEC Ministerial Meeting on Forestry kicked off its site visit activities in south China's Shenzhen. The activity brought together over 100 delegates from 21 APEC economies for a hands-on journey through the city's green transformation.

At the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning, delegates explored how planning-led territorial governance has reshaped the city's ecological landscape. However, the real highlight came when delegation heads rolled up their sleeves to plant Bruguiera gymnorhiza hypocotyls, mangrove propagules, into nursery containers. These seedlings will later find a permanent home in the APEC Forestry Ministers' Forest within Guangdong Neilingding Futian National Nature Reserve, a living symbol of Asia-Pacific cooperation.

Shenzhen's urban action plan of "integrating the city with mountains and seas" took center stage during the visit, showcasing an ambitious ecological framework that links bays, mountains, rivers, and green corridors into a seamless network. With over 1,350 parks, 4,000 kilometers of trails, and the iconic 200-kilometer Kunpeng Route that connects surrounding mountains with the sea, the city stands as a model of urban-nature harmony.

Under the theme "Towards an Asia-Pacific that Advances ForestResilience and Ecological Well-being for All," The 2026 APEC Ministerial Meeting on Forestry is one of the key events of the 2026 APEC. Discussion will engage in policy dialogues on forest conservation and sustainable management, balancing ecological protection with livelihood development, and technological innovation.
