Professor Jeffrey Sachs from Columbia University in the United States has stated that contemporary wars have essentially become costless for Western politicians because they themselves are "very safe and far away." Sachs made the remarks in an interview with Professor Glenn Diesen of the University of South-Eastern Norway. He noted that "for them, it's a video game," and argued that many Europeans oppose war and yearn for peace but believe their politicians do not represent their interests.
