China's iconic Dongfanghong 2 oceanographic research ship has returned to service after a comprehensive overhaul, enhancing the country's ocean research capabilities. The vessel has been equipped with upgraded positioning and automated navigation systems, along with expanded laboratory space and advanced deck cranes, enabling a wider range of deep-sea research missions. Commissioned in 1996, the vessel has supported generations of marine research in China.
