The Chinese film Dear You closed the 25th New York Asian Film Festival on July 26, marking its North American premiere. Founded in 2002, the festival is one of the major events celebrating Asian cinema in North America.

The screening quickly sold out, with an additional screening added due to high demand. The film tells a family story rooted in the Chaoshan culture of southern China, exploring memories, love and bonds between generations.

Despite its small budget, the film attracted wide attention with its simple story and genuine emotions. During the festival, Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning Hollywood producer Janet Yang praised the film’s authenticity, noting that audiences can connect with a story as long as the emotions feel real.

Director Lan Hongchun said the team focused on building strong characters and telling an honest story, rather than relying on large-scale production. The film will be released in North American theaters in September.
