Limutai: A gentle way to embrace summer

Summer's gentlest side isn't hard to find – it's waiting at Limutai, in northern China. Streams babble down the mountainsides, perfect for splashing about, wading barefoot, or even trying your luck at catching tiny fish with your hands – crisp water washing the heat right off you.

Slow down; pick fresh mint leaves for your coffee. Breathe in; every cubic centimeter of air packs 1,000 to 10,000 negative oxygen ions, a spa retreat for your lungs. And just like that, summer gets a little more restorative.

Travelers have made their way from Uzbekistan, journeying over towering mountains to get here. They said their hometown was hot and dry, but stepping into Limutai's shade made their sweat melt away.
