Wildfires continue to tear through southwestern Europe, forcing large-scale evacuations in France and Spain. In France's Gironde, 220,000 people have been evacuated this summer. According to Spain's Ministry for the Ecological Transition, wildfires had burned a total of 172,453 hectares nationwide as of July 24. The fourth heatwave of the summer arrived on July 29, pushing temperatures to 42 degrees Celcius, and raising fears that the fires could worsen again.
