Poland's military said on Thursday that it had scrambled F-16 fighter jets and an airborne early warning aircraft overnight after detecting intense activity by Russian long-range aviation during strikes on Ukraine.
The military said it detected an unidentified object that briefly entered Polish airspace before disappearing from radar. A military helicopter later located the object's suspected crash site near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in Poland's eastern Lublin region, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said on X on Thursday.
Russian air strikes killed at least 13 people in Ukraine on Thursday, including one person in Kyiv, with attacks reaching as far west as the city of Lviv, Ukrainian officials said.
Russia's defense ministry said on Thursday its forces struck what it described as military facilities across Ukraine, from the capital Kyiv to Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk, as well as three cargo ships.
The dry cargo vessels, which the ministry accused of carrying weapons and military equipment, were struck near the Black Sea city of Odesa, the ministry said.
