The first phase of Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project, the first Hualong One nuclear power project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, was fully completed and put into operation on Sunday after its second unit began commercial operation.

The newly commissioned Unit 2 uses China's domestically developed third-generation Hualong One nuclear technology, which has fully independent intellectual property rights. More than 90% of its core equipment is domestically manufactured, and the unit has a rated electric output of about 1,200 megawatts.

Developed by the China General Nuclear Power Group, Taipingling Nuclear Power Project is planned to include six Hualong One nuclear power units.

Once all six units are completed, the project is expected to generate about 55 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. The output is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by about 16.52 million tonnes and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 50.82 million tonnes each year.
