Colombian authorities have raised the alert level for the Puracé volcano to orange after it recorded its highest activity levels since monitoring began in 1993.
The volcano in southwestern Colombia had been under a yellow alert since January this year before authorities raised it to orange. Officials said gas and ash emissions have affected nearby communities, including pastures, crops and water supplies, as they prepare for a possible eruption.
