Guatemalan authorities ordered preventive evacuations after the Fuego volcano eruption intensified on Monday, spewing lava, ash and pyroclastic flows down its slopes.

Authorities said residents from nearby communities were moved to temporary shelters as an orange alert was declared and ash was expected to spread to surrounding areas.
