Portuguese authorities announced on Wednesday that they had intercepted a cargo ship around 640 nautical miles from Lisbon and seized about 5 tonnes of cocaine.
Most of the drugs were concealed inside a shipping container, while part of the shipment had already been moved into the vessel's hold, they stated, adding that three people aboard were arrested.
The operation brings Portugal's cocaine seizures so far this year to around 28 tonnes – already more than what the country seized during the whole of 2025.
