In an intense showdown at the latest WTT Champions event in Yokohama, China's Wang Yidi overcame Japanese home favorite Mima Ito 3-1 to secure her place in the last 16 of the women's competition.

Ito confidently began the contest, racing to a 2-0 lead that put the pressure squarely on Wang. However, the resilient Chinese player clawed her way back into contention, tying the match as the duo engaged in a fiercely competitive battle. At 6-all in the first game, Ito exhibited her composure, seizing the opportunity to edge ahead and clinch the first frame 11-8.

Yet, a shift in momentum came in the second game, as Wang displayed relentless determination, racing to an 8-1 lead before securing the frame with an impressive 11-1 finish.

Refusing to bow out easily, Ito rebounded in the third set, initially taking a 7-5 advantage.  However, Wang's patience prevailed and after Ito hit the net, the Chinese capitalized to reclaim control, ultimately sealing the game 11-9.

In the fourth frame, Ito called for a timeout while trailing 4-2, but Wang maintained her momentum, demonstrating an unwavering focus that led her to victory.

With this win, the World No. 6 Wang sets her sights on the next challenge, where she will face Chinese Taipei's Cheng I-Ching in the round of 16.
