World's first 16-MW tension-leg floating wind platform goes online

The world's first 16-megawatt tension-leg floating wind platform, Haiyou Anlan, has entered operation in the South China Sea.

Installed at the Lufeng oilfield around 136 kilometers offshore in waters 136 meters deep, the typhoon-resistant platform supplies electricity directly to offshore oil and gas facilities through a 4.3-kilometer subsea cable.

It is expected to generate 54 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually, saving around 15,000 cubic meters of fuel oil and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 35,000 tonnes.
