Typhoon Dolphin expected to make landfall on China's east coast

China's meteorological authorities have continued to issue a yellow alert for Typhoon Dolphin, which is expected to approach China’s eastern coast and could make landfall between Zhejiang Province and northern Fujian Province from the afternoon of Aug. 9 to the morning of Aug. 10.

The National Meteorological Center said on Friday that Typhoon Dolphin could bring strong winds and heavy rain to eastern China around Aug. 9, with heavy rain in some areas and extremely heavy rain in isolated locations. It forecasts that from Aug. 12 to 14, as the storm weakens, heavy to torrential rain could hit areas including parts of northern China, with very heavy rain in isolated areas.

Zhou Guanbo, chief forecaster at the NMC, said at a press briefing on Thursday evening that the typhoon is expected to strengthen after entering the East China Sea.

Zhou cautioned that the storm could bring heavy rainfall and that its impacts may be widespread.

Experts warn that the storm's track remains uncertain due to multiple weather systems. After landfall, it could either loop southward or shift northward, potentially extending its impacts to northern regions.

Gales and heavy rainfall are expected to affect parts of eastern China and adjacent seas in the coming days. Residents in coastal areas have been urged to closely monitor forecasts and take precautionary measures.
