Rangers in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region are once again braving icy mountain waters to help protect Tibetan antelope calves during the species' annual return migration.

Every year, Tibetan antelopes migrate across the Changtang National Nature Reserve, where river crossings pose one of the greatest challenges for newborn calves.

One calf rescued this year suffered a broken leg while attempting to cross the river. Rangers stabilized the injured limb with wooden splints and bandages before taking the animal to a temporary rescue station for further care.
