Xiao Guodong stages stirring comeback to beat McGill at WST China Open

In a showcase of resilience, China's Xiao Guodong overcame Scotland's Anthony McGill 6-3 after earlier falling behind 3-2 in a thrilling clash in the first round of the World Snooker Tour China Open in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, on Sunday.

Xiao, the World No. 11 and a two-time Wuhan Open champion, started the match on the front foot, taking the first frame with a solid break of 54. McGill responded immediately, snatching a closely contested second frame 66-54 to level the contest at 1-1 overall.

The third frame saw Xiao begin to truly display his talent, producing a stunning clearance of 132, which stood out as the highlight of the match. McGill refused to back down, however, firing back with impressive breaks of 61 and 82 to grab the next two frames and edge in front 3-2.

The pendulum swung again when Xiao unleashed a phenomenal break of 76, leveling the contest at 3-3. With renewed determination, the 37-year-old dominated the next three frames as well, surging to a 6-3 victory and advancing into the round of 16 to face England's 2005 world champion Shaun Murphy.

In another notable early match, England's seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan showcased his trademark tenacity, overcoming Welsh potter Jackson Page 6-2 and setting up a round-of-16 clash with Thailand's Noppon Saengkham.
